How To Plan Your Move:

When you start to pack up areas of your home or office like the kitchen, garage or supply closet, remember that there are certain types of items that are prohibited from being shipped with your moving company and will include anything poisonous, flammable, corrosive or perishable. Many are a matter of simple common sense when it comes to protecting your belongings and the safety of the truck and some are subject to federal requirements:
These include but are not limited to:

  • Cans of liquids, for instance Paint, Paint Thinner or Varnish Tins
  • Pets
  • Live Plants
  • Matches / Candles / Lighters
  • Perishable Goods
  • Insecticides
  • Food in Glass Jars
  • Firewood
  • Propane Tanks, empty or full
  • Fire Extinguishers
  • Butane Containers
  • Fuels / Oils / Antifreeze
  • Aerosol Cans
  • Cleaning Chemicals incl. Liquid Bleach
  • Fire Arms or Ammunition
  • Open Alcohol Containers
  • Any Pressurized Tanks

If you are planning to ship outdoor furniture like a patio table and chairs, barbeque or a jungle gym into California there is a USDA special regulation that must be complied with. Most movers will insist that a self-certified checklist is completed prior to your move date to verify that all outdoor items have been inspected and cleaned to remove all traces of the Gypsy Moth in any of its developmental stages. This is to avoid a quarantine that will delay the arrival of your household items.
